Angela

Date: February 24, 2025

Start: 7:32pm

Adjourn: 8:13pm

Number in attendance: 5; 2

Reading of minutes: waived; minutes accepted.

Guest: Fire Chief Wolford and crew Tori Hagedorn, Brady Hagedorn, and Billy Hagedorn

Topic: Update on the new Crownsville Fire House

  • Two parts of the fire department: volunteer (does not ride the apparatus) and career (rides the apparatus)

  • New Building - April 2025 potential move in (pushed backed from Feb/March; supply delay of roofing and install; stone was changed, etc.). Certificate of Occupancy soon. Built to house career and volunteers. Will have a Grand Opening and Open House once the people are in the building. They will have been running calls from the building by that time. They will be doing station tours. This is one of the first stations she has done from beginning to end (process takes about 5 years). All pieces needed to be addressed: landscaping, community rooms at no cost (Civic Meetings, etc.), will have a platform available for scheduling.  All of the assets from the current FD will be moved to the new building.

  • Current building - Operational side and Brd of Directors. Looking at what they are going to do with the building. Considering turning it into a rental hall; parties, weddings, wakes, etc. Some retired equipment will still be house there for parades, etc. Also a place for the pits for their pit beef sale. Would be able to hold ~150 (or less)  people. They own some pieces of apparatus that are parade ready, not “work use”. Entire station;

  • What about parking: the trailer may be moved in order to extend parking; cannot park on the grass (septic and some sinking). Early stages (permitting, traffic flow, etc.).

  • How will the community be notified? Tory would be available to work with the community. She is willing to come to our meetings to let people know what is going on.

  • Kitchen facilities - looking at something a little larger than a typical home kitchen, may put in commercial grade appliances. Hoping for some preliminary decisions tomorrow night at their board meeting Updates will be posted on their website:  HHVFD.org

  • The county will continue to help maintain until they move up the hill; at that time the volunteer company will assume full responsibility.

  • Anyone is welcome to apply for a job with the county; the same crew will continue to cover the area (4 shift platoon). May be adding upwards of 4000 new addresses to their coverage area; looking at 8 minutes or less when they run a call. Greater reach and a greater compliment of assets. This will provide consistency; they know the neighborhood.

  • Fire Investigator will have overnight quarters, Shift Commander, and EMS/EMT Officer will be housed there.

  • Brush assets (brush trucks); not the same concern as in CA. They are prepared to deal with our geography. Underwater drafting tanks, tanker trucks.

  • Four bay model (tankers, engine, trucks, pumper, and transport units). There is a loft in the bay for training. Combination joint 911 center (police, fire and OEM). They are working on building a new training academy behind Rams Head RoadHouse.

  • Has the board looked into what can actually be permitted (e.g., can 150 or less be accommodated?) Not yet, but they anticipate that whatever they do, it will be for less than 150 people.

  • Matt and board will help send out notifications about upcoming events at the fire houses. Ashley can email Chief Wolford the contacts we currently have available.

  • Stopped doing concerts on the green due to cost ($1500 to $2000 for a band). They are looking into maybe doing it again.

  • Have calls gone up in general in the county? They ~100k/yr, may be over 400k calls (multiple people calling in about the same incident). Additional expansions will be made.

  • Crownsville Hospital impact - nothing adverse.
