About the event
Walk for the Woods By Linda Crump
Scenic Rivers Land Trust is the organization that secured a conservation easement on the Garman property, that tract of land that runs from the saw mill on River Rd to near the top of the hill on Herald Harbor Rd.
Walk for the Woods is Scenic Rivers’ annual celebration of families exploring the outdoors in the beautiful, permanently protected Bacon Ridge Natural Area. This event is scheduled for Saturday, April 27 (Rain date April 28). This is a free event, although donations are appreciated. It is held off Farm Rd on the former Crownsville Hospital property.
Self-guided hike options will be offered, complete with trail maps and educational signage posted along the trails. Guided hikes led by experts in wildlife, native plants, birds, nature photography, and more will be offered throughout the day. Hikes range from 1 to 4 miles, vary in degree of difficulty, and are on marked unpaved trails.
Plus, there is the Creek Critter Discovery program. Learn about the life teaming in our local streams! Experts from Coastal Resources, Inc. will be set up along the banks of Bacon Ridge Branch with hands on exhibits and information about the aquatic wildlife found in the stream. This activity requires a short hike into Bacon Ridge and is very popular with children and adults alike!
Registration for guided hikes will open on April 8 and is recommended but not required. The link to registration will be announced via email and social media. For further information, go to Walk for the Woods.
